With Scottish coach David Gould in charge of what would be his only two games as the United States team manager, the national team traveled to Italy in 1934 to participate in their second World Cup competition.
The star of the brief American campaign was forward Aldo "Buff" Donelli, the scorer of all four goals as the States overcame Mexico 4-2 in the qualifying round to earn entry into the competition proper.
