Taking over managerial duties in the 1993-1994 season, former player, and left-back from the club’s European Cup-winning days, Frank Clark brought about an immediate upturn in fortunes. With new signings like Stan Collymore, Colin Cooper, and David Phillips settling quickly, Forest shrugged off a poor start to the 1993-94 season to improve and lose just three League games after early November. Promotion was achieved as Division 1 runners-up and the fine form continued into their Premiership return.

With Collymore even more prolific in front of goal in 94-95, Forest won eight and drew the other three of their opening eleven fixtures. Residing in the top six all season, Nottingham Forest finished the 94-95 season in third place to earn a return to European football.
